At one point, the series, which aired from May 2006 through July 2010, followed the life of her former friend and housemate, Lauren Conrad, then later followed Kristin Cavallari, another friend to Montag.

She is known for her starring role on the MTV reality series Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County and for her spin-off show, The Hills, which at one point followed her personal and professional life as she pursued a career in the fashion industry.
