Love Hurts, 2010 (April)For drama this piece is best viewed at Midnight, for detail at anyother time of the day.Made specifically for the PodPorri Digital Age Variety Show '2.0 Digital Love' at Brooklyn is Watching (Second Life) as part of a live event in the Galapagous art space in Brooklyn NY, during a discussion by Jay Van Buren.Love can be beautiful and painful, ecstasy and angst.Dekka RaymakerOn Self-KnowledgeYour hearts know in silence the secrets of the days and the nights. But your ears thirst for the sound of your heart's knowledge. You would know in words that which you have always known in thought. You would touch with your fingers the naked body of your dreams. And it is well you should. The hidden well-spring of your soul must needs rise and run murmuring to the sea; And the treasure of your infinite depths would be revealed to your eyes. But let there be no scales to weigh your unknown treasure; And seek not the depths of your knowledge with staff or sounding line. For self is a sea boundless and measureless.Say not, "I have found the truth," but rather, "I have found a truth." Say not, "I have found the path of the soul." Say rather, "I have met the soul walking upon my path." For the soul walks upon all paths. The soul walks not upon a line, neither does it grow like a reed. The soul unfolds itself like a lotus of countless petals.--Kahlil Gibran "Very Silly Militude" is not what it seems. Very Silly Militude characterizes the quality of verissimilitude superficially. But when set to midnight, a viewer walking through will see light cast in unusual ways. The exterior layer of the work is a deliberate misdirection and while it appears to be about the movement of heavy objects in space, it is really about the way light is occluded by them."Sirens of the Aral Sea" 2010 Continous Installation by Rod Mandel. The Premise of the piece comes from a reactionary observation from an historic event (The removal of water from Aral Sea). The piece's intent is not political but rather to document the artists involvement with his own process of understanding elements surrounding the theme of the piece. Mandel is interested in processes which transforms understanding and connections between concepts of liminality and reality.
